How To Become A Great Leader In Direct Sales

Author: Susan Squier

A successful leader has a positive attitude, a strong belief system, self-discipline, the desire to succeed, determination to move mountains, persistence to keep going, patience, and focus.

Before you can be successful in direct sales, you must first learn and adopt the personality traits of a leader. To do this, you’ll need to assess your leadership skills..

Below are some of the ways you can grow as a leader:

Belief

Do you believe, with out a doubt, that you deserve the very best that life has to offer? Do you believe that you have what it takes to reach your dreams? Wanting success and believing it’s possible are two very different things.

Most people want more than they already have but make little or no attempt to reach their dreams because they don’t actually believe that it’s possible. If you want to succeed as a leader, you need to believe in yourself, in the company you're working with, and in the product. You need to believe that that success is possible because belief can carry you through every seemingly impossible moment; it’s your foundation.

What you believe is true, is very true; what you believe is not true, really isn’t. You must believe that you have what it takes to run a million dollar company or you will never have more than a side venture.

Self-Discipline

Lack of self-discipline will hold you back from reaching your full potential.

Self-discipline is doing what needs to get done even when you don’t feel like doing it. Self-discipline is doing what needs to get done even when nobody is paying attention. Self-discipline is getting work done even when your house is messy. Self-discipline is scheduling your day instead of your day scheduling you. Self-discipline is going outside of your comfort zone regardless of your fears and self talk.

Self-discipline is staying consistent and on track when life blindsides you. It is the opposite of procrastination.

Passion And Desire

How deep is your desire to change your current situation? Is it deep enough to keep you moving?

Your desire needs to fuel your fire when your flames are burning out.

How passionate are you about your products?

If you don’t, with out a doubt, love your products then your customers won’t either.

Your desire and passion, or lack thereof, will shine through. If your desire is huge; you will have huge results. If your desire is weak; you will have weak results.

Determination

How determined are you to finish what you start? Do you loose interest easily? Do you give up too easily?

Just wanting to change is not enough; you must have determination to seek things through. People who are determined to reach their goals will fall down 1,000 times and still get up on the 1,001 time. Are you determined enough?

Effort, Persistence, And Patience

Dreams work when we work, and not a minute before.

Making an effort is doing more than is expected of you and more than you thought you could do.

Without patience you will give up before you reach your goal and quit just before success shows its face. When nothing seems to be working, hold on... a little more patience and a little more effort could be the difference between failure and a glorious win.

Our society today is obsessed with instant gratification. If you are one of these people, you will need to adjust your thinking because no business will give you instant gratification at the starting line.

A successful direct sales business is a result of consistent effort, persistence, and patience.

Focus

Are you truly focused on your goals and your plan? Do you wake up everyday knowing exactly what you’re going to do for your business?

Focus starts with truly identifying your goals, then putting them down on paper. Your plan should be to complete a series of small goals; goals that ultimately lead to achieving your ultimate goal.

Focus is not a once a week, or once a month component. It’s a daily necessity!
