When composing a press release, it’s important to stay on task and make sure it grabs the attention of the reader, is interesting, and is newsworthy. A good press release will not only gain the attention of the media and public, but cause them to take some sort of action.

When writing your press release, take the time to not only ask, but answer in detail, the following question:

    Ad Disclaimer

  • What keyword phrase would l like my press release geared towards?
You need to put your PR on your website so that Google News, freelance writers, and journalists can easily find your information when searching the Internet for story angles. It's also a great idea to use keyword phrases when submitting your PR to PRWeb.
(Did you know that 92% of freelance writers and journalists now use the Internet for research?)

  • What is the contact information I want placed on my press release?
(name, website, address, fax, phone, email, etc.)

  • What is the purpose of my press release?
    (sell, inform, explain, etc.)

  • Who is the audience I am trying to reach?
(financial make-up, profession, age, gender, single, married, with kids, without kids, etc.)

  • What do I want to get across to the reader?

  • Why do I think my target audience or journalists will want to read my press release?

  • What is the product or service I am selling?

  • What are the benefits of my service or product?

  • Does my product or service offer a solution?

  • What makes my product or service stand out above the rest?

  • What testimonies have I received from previous clients or customers that knocked my socks off? And can we reprint them, with their full name, occupation, website address, city, and state.

  • Do I have a marketing idea or gimmick that I want to use in my press release?

  • If this is a new business, why did I start it and how did it take shape?
Now that you've answered these questions, you can begin to write a press release that will accomplish your goals, reach the target audience for the media you use, and address a real need for your audience.
