Are You Too BUSY to Say Thanks?
Have you been to a child’s birthday party where the child is barely visible behind the mound of gifts? You take yours and add it to the pile. When it’s time to open gifts, that kid can tear through gift-wrap paper like a piranha going for a t-bone.

Can My Child Hear From God?
We teach our children to read the Bible, and to serve God and others, but how often do we teach our children to listen for the voice of God?

Do I Have To Go To Church?
When I was a little girl, my mother spent Saturday nights washing, drying, and ironing outfits, and hanging them in our rooms. She polished five pairs of children’s shoes and laid out our socks. She did this so that the next morning, there would be no discussion on whether we were attending church or arguments about what we would wear. We simply put on our clothes and piled into the car for Sunday School and church.

Do You Have A MySpace Account?
The other night I watched the classic movie, The Secret Garden, made in 1949 based on the children’s book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, about a sad and troubled girl who finds peace while solving the mystery of a secret garden. Although I don’t remember ever reading that book, the idea of a place to get away has always been my dream. As a child growing up in a tumultuous and stressful home, I imagined a tranquil and beautiful retreat.

Do We Turn Into Angels?
A few nights ago, I watched the sweetest children’s movie about a little girl whose mother had died, and because her father needed to go away, the girl ended up in boarding school. A fellow schoolmate, who had also lost her mother, asked the little girl where mothers go when they die. The girl gave a lovely speech about how her mother had gone to heaven to become an angel. She assured her new friend that all mothers turn into angels when they die, and come back when needed to help their children.

Does My Child Need To Put On The Armor Of God?
I received Jesus Christ as my Savior at just eight years of age. I went to Sunday School and found a substitute teacher doing the best he could to teach a rowdy bunch of third-graders. Instead of sticking to the lesson plan, he decided to share the plan of salvation.

Is It A Sin To Swear?
I went to the nearby shopping mall with my family. While my husband and son looked around a store, I opted to sit on a bench to wait. Beside me, a girl about fifteen talked on her cell phone. It seemed like she swore every other word. Gratuitously. Without reason. Just normal conversation. Right?

Is It Okay To Believe In Ghosts?
The other day in a parking lot, I walked past a little girl as she skipped along holding on to her father’s hand. She chattered away, and as I neared, I heard her proclaim, “You know what, Daddy? You know who Casper is? Did you know he’s my favorite ghost?”

Should I Mix Politics And Religion?
In the United States, news of the coming presidential election fills the airwaves. Does it really matter who leads our country? If you have small children and they hear a lot of talk about politics, they may ask many questions. Our teenagers hear adults saying, “What’s the use?” As they near voting age, they might adopt the attitude, “Why should I even vote?”

The Devil Didn’t Make You Do It!
As a little girl, I remember watching a cartoon where the main character regularly faced moral dilemmas. While he mulled over his decision, a tiny white angel appeared on one shoulder, while a cute little caricature of a devil sat on the other.

What's Wrong With Reading My Horoscope?
As a young girl, I remember seeing horoscope columns in the popular teen magazines. Sometimes my sister and I would read them in the newspaper and laugh at the predictions. We never took them seriously. Many people think it’s innocent fun to read their horoscopes.

Where's The Respect?
I suppose I’m as guilty as the next person. Some of my favorite television sitcoms feature men, and more specifically husband and dads, portrayed as bumbling and goofy. The moms have to swoop in, clean up after their messes, and get them back on track. Even the children show little respect for the fathers on these shows.
