Cinderella’s entire life with the Prince is threatened when her evil stepmother uses the Fairy Godmother’s wand to go back in time and trick the Prince into marrying one of her daughters.

The Review

We all know the story of Cinderella. Cinderella’s father dies leaving her to live with her mean stepmother and two, ugly stepsisters. Jealous of her beauty and the love her father had for her, the stepmother turns Cinderella into the family slave. Her sole job: make her stepmother and stepsisters happy at all cost. But fate had other plans and sent a Fairy Godmother to save the day.

Cinderella’s given a beautiful stagecoach, a stunning dress, and a gorgeous makeover then sent off to the grand Ball to meet the Prince. The two fall in love, but at the stroke of midnight, she’s forced to run off, leaving behind one glass slipper.

The Prince picks up the glass slipper, then uses it to help him find his bride-to-be. After much searching, the two find each other, marry, and live happily ever after.

In Cinderella III, the couple experience their very first wedding anniversary and everything appears to be just as blissful as when the story left off. But the Fairy Godmother accidentally flings her magic wand into the bushes where it’s picked up by one of the stepsisters and given to the mean stepmother.

Realizing the power behind the wand, the stepmother uses it to go back in time where she plans to change fate and put one of her daughter’s in the palace—as bride to the prince.

Will she succeed? Not if Cinderella and her animal friends have anything to say about it. Once Cinderella realizes what’s happened, she and her little friends do everything they can to regain control of the wand and her future.

In the meantime, the stepmother has turned the entire kingdom upside and convinces her daughter that marrying a man who doesn’t love her is in her best interest. That is, until her daughter comes to her senses and gives the Prince back to his rightful lover, Cinderella.

Cinderella III isn’t on the same caliber as Cinderella—the magic just wasn’t there. But will anything ever be on the same caliber? Can anything ever compete with the original? I dare so not. Yet, despite this Cinderella III is a great sequel and one the whole family will enjoy. In fact, it was fun to see Cinderella stand up for herself and fight for what she wanted instead of passively letting the change of events keep her from fulfilling her destiny.

What’s next in the Cinderella sequence? How about a totally different version of the original? How about Cinderella falling for the Prince of the High Seas—a pirate prince!? Hey, it can happen!

Your Task

Turn the lights down low, place the sleeping bags on the ground, and cuddle up with your little ones as you enjoy the magic of Cinderella III. If your children are older; however, why not watch both Cinderella and Cinderella III then ask your older children to tell you the differences they see in Cinderella’s demeanor. Ask them why they feel Cinderella has changed, when in essence, she is the same age in both shows. Then ask them to think about their own lives and ask them, “How have you changed over the years? How are you different now from when you were two or five or seven or twelve? How have you grown in this past year alone?” It’s a wonderful way to get to know your teens without trying to force the conversation.
