Ever since Dukes of Hazzard aired in 1979, I have been hooked. It’s a fast pace, family friendly drama that promotes family, honor, and good times.
It all began when Boss Hogg and Jessie Duke were youngsters. They grew up together and even made moonshine together. Then one day, Jessie passed the legacy onto his nephews, Bo and Luke Duke. Everything was fine until Bo and Luke got caught by the federal government. To keep them out of jail, Jessie agreed to never make moonshine again. Being their first offense, the government put Bo and Luke on probation: no crossing the county line and no fire arms.
Jessie’s family got a second chance and he took that chance seriously. The family turned a new leaf and in doing so, hit many financially difficult times. But no matter how tight things got, the Dukes never did anything illegal to make ends meet. In fact, they spent most of their spare time keeping the citizens of Hazzard County safe from Boss Hogg’s schemes, while pulling Boss Hogg and his sidekick sheriff, Rosco, out of one fiasco after another.
Daisy Duke ends up working for Boss Hogg at the Boar’s Nest in return for a fair interest rate on a loan they need to enter the General Lee into a car race where the money is used to help save the family farm.
Throughout the entire series, the Dukes remind viewers of the importance of family, of doing the honorable thing despite one’s circumstances or the evil plots of our enemies, and to always remember that under every grey cloud there is a silver lining.
