Review
From the moment George Lopez, the sitcom, hit the airwaves, I was hooked. George had a turbulent childhood and his relationship with his mother remains rocky at best, but he doesn’t let that stop him from “living the good life”.

Despite all odds, George captures the heart of the high school prom queen, gets married, receives a promotion, and raises the family of his dreams—the family he always wished he had as a child; complete with a doting mother, a father who sticks around, and a well-adjusted family life.

And despite the fact that his mother can’t give a compliment to save her life, her constant interactions with George and his family is a sure sign of what lies beneath that cold, cold heart.

There are many defining moments, in season one and two, but if you’re not careful, you just might miss them among all the laughter. For me, however, George’s motto says it all: When life gives you lemons make lemon aid.

Your Task
This week, as you sit down to watch television, plop in an episode of George Lopez and let the worries of the world disappear amongst the laughter. And don’t be afraid to plop in an episode that may relate to something your child’s going through because George Lopez, the series, is full of everyday family scenarios. But if you do, take the time after the show to talk about how the situation was handled in the episode and how you’d handle it—even if it means you’d have handled it differently. Televisions shows are great conversation starters.
